Why do we need a government?

I understand the most people need other people to govern there actions and tell them what they can and can't do. But what good are political people really doing? All the money they gave to the banks, they have no idea what the banks are doing with it, they even came out and said that! They say they'll regulate, but there not doing a very good job. And I would also like to know, how do they expect to fix the economy, especially with all the jobs lost so far, if they have blatantly gave money away and have no clue what's being done with it. Oh, and one more thing, I should be a mentally incompetent CEO of a bank, bc then I would get a few million. Does anyone think this is really fair? And before you say, life isn't fair, do you think it's okay to let presidents or CEO's of banks run there companies into the ground and get paid while the rest of us get permanently laid off and barely draw $100 some odd dollars a week? Explain the fairness in that to me.
