Good area to live in Maryland

I am looking to live in a younger more trendy area to live in Maryland. I want to move to a place that is up and coming where their are convenient to shops and such. I am not necessarily looking for a house; I would love to live in a townhouse or condo that is convenient or even connected to stores. Bethesda and Georgetown is way to expensive, and Canton and Fells Point is too close to Baltimore. I really love Maple Leaf in Fulton but they are more family orientated and their townhouses are very expensive and they do not have any condos. Does any one know of any other area that is like these areas or up and coming geared more towards a younger crowd or artsy or trendy while not being extremely overpriced in Maryland?
